Overall Responsibility Under the administrative supervision of the Director of Health Services and the clinical supervision of the nurse practitioners and pediatrician, the Primary Care Nurse provides healthcare for the students on their designated teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Position is daytime 8AM-4PM or 7:30AM to 3:30PM, no weekends except for beeper coverage
Provides primary healthcare management for assigned students
Provides medication management for assigned students
Participates in daily health clinic and prepares new treatments for students seen at clinic. Instructs teachers and parents about treatments.
Advanced health assessment skills - collaborates with NP when necessary. Able to work independently.
Beeper coverage rotation: 6 weeks per year which may include visiting team house or accompanying team to the emergency room. Beeper rotation will include 1-2 holidays annually.
Participates in health education to teaching staff.
Supervises and teaches clinical staff for delegation of administration of medication to students.
Participates in assigned tasks such as narcotic counts, cleaning of clinic and exam rooms, or maintenance of medical equipment to assist in Department function and regulation compliance.
Participates in the organization of Specialty Medical Clinics with consultants, team and parents.
Assists in the coverage of other nurses' sick and vacation time, including Residential, Day Services, Occupational Health and Adult Services
Participates in weekly supervision meeting with Director of Health Services and/or Nurse Practitioner.
Serves as a medical liaison between teaching staff and parents. Qualifications
Registered Nurse, duly licensed to practice in Massachusetts
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor's preferred
Basic CPR certification of Adults, Children and Infants (ARC or AHA)
Successful completion of NECC orientation course
Computer skills necessary
